ABOUT OUR FOUNDATION

Explore Our History

The Providence Foundation of San Francisco (PFSF) stands as the philanthropic arm of the Providence Baptist Church of San Francisco, deeply rooted in the Bayview Hunters Point (BVHP) community. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1997, PFSF is committed to uplifting the quality of life in low-income communities. Through a comprehensive, community-based approach, it empowers individuals towards self-reliance by offering a broad spectrum of programs, services, education, and training. This endeavor mirrors the rich cultural diversity and competence inherent within the communities it serves.

For over two decades, PFSF has maintained a significant presence in its community, operating a consortium of Emergency Shelters since the year 2000 for homeless men, women, and families. Originating from the compassionate efforts of the Providence Baptist Church congregation in 1996, and officially gaining its 501(c)(3) status in September 1997, the foundation has dedicated itself to serving the predominantly African-American BVHP community of San Francisco for 27 years.

PFSF's offerings are vast and varied, extending from educational and training opportunities to housing, food, and welfare services aimed at children, families, and senior citizens. The foundation's current programs include homeless shelters, managed care, housing for 50 low-income seniors, and a youth summer day camp. Additionally, PFSF provides crucial support through food donations, community grants, and scholarships, ensuring that its beneficiaries receive the resources needed to address and overcome community challenges.

At its core, the Providence Foundation of San Francisco embodies a steadfast commitment to addressing the needs of its community, demonstrating an unwavering concern for community issues through its ability to adapt and respond to changing needs. Through its comprehensive array of services, PFSF continues to be a beacon of hope and support, empowering generations and fostering a brighter future for all it serves.
