Youth Services
The Foundation collapsed Youth Leadership Development Project (YLDP) and the After School Tutorial/Summer Day Camp Programs into what is now called Youth Services.  This has allowed us to continue development of our participants from a young age in kindergarten to young adulthood at age 18.  The After School/Summer Day Camp Programs service ages 5-13, but we saw the need to continue through to the age of 18, thereby developing leadership skills of the older youth to serve as mentors and teacher aids to the younger participants.   We noted during the summer of 2007 the benefits of this plan when one of the teacher’s aid who had once been a participant in the summer day camp program at an early age, returned as a great mentor and teacher to current students.
Youth Leadership Developememt Project
TIDES Foundation has funded the project since 2001, and will fund the project through 2009.   We currently have 16 participants who are provided life skills training and academic support.  The Foundation collaborates with 100% College Prep, Institute, Young Life Southeast, and BMagic, to inspire youth to set social and artistic goals as well as preparation for college.  Eligible participants also attend Historical Black Colleges to aid in the selection of a university or college.
After-School Tutorial
Since opening the After School Tutorial Program 2001, enrollment has reached 25 youth in grades K – 8.  Funding has been received from Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF) each year.  During 2007, our site was selected to host the annual parent meeting for Citywide Tutorial.  Students participated on Mondays and Fridays with Tree Frog Treks, which uses animals to teach and learn.  We continued to use volunteers from Citywide Tutorial of the San Francisco Unified School District to assist students in completing their homework and participating in skill building activities.  There are 3 teachers, one for each grade group (K - 2nd, 3rd – 5th, and 6th - 8th).  The Program Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator rotate to each grade group, and provide one-on-one tutorial assistance as needed.  The program is operated at the church, Monday through Friday, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
Teen Programming
One of the reasons for collapsing the YLDP component with the After School Tutorial Program, was to obtain additional funds in order to serve more youth ages 13 to 18, thus allowing an increase from16 to 24.  Our specific need for this program was to prepare young adults for adulthood, teaching them personal responsibility, and a practical approach to achieving their dreams and aspirations.  We received funding for our efforts through the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Children, Youth, and their Families for our teen programming component.

Summer Day Camp:

Our Summer Day Camp Program started in 2001 and has increased in participants each year.  Last summer, enrollment totaled 80 youths for the 5-week program.  At the end of the program, participants put on a show for the Providence Baptist Church, and showcase their talent with singing, dancing and speaking in various languages learned  in the day camp.  They are also taught behavioral skills and participate in sports, such as karate and basketball.  Last summer, a picnic was held at the Bay View Playground where youth showcased their cooking skills. The staff for this program includes a Program Coordinator, Assistant Program Coordinator, 4 Teachers, 2 Assistant Tutors, 1 Cook, and a Security Guard.  Additionally, volunteers from MYEEP assistant with the program.  Weekly field trips are offered to places such as Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Six Flags Marine World, Chabot Space and Science Center, and the Jelly Bean Factory.
Providence Opportunies Program (POP)
This program has received funding from San Francisco Unified School District since 1999. POP provides mentoring services to targeted groups of selected students from elementary, middle and high schools in the San Francisco Unified School District.  The focus is on “Excellence for ALL” – increasing the academic achievement, the attendance rate, and decreasing the suspension rates for non-expulsionable offences for students involved in the program.  Program activities include: tutorial services/homework assistance; one-on-one counseling; parent participation meetings, school and home visits, and mentor training.
The program’s staff include: a Program Director, 7 mentors, and one clerical assistant.
